Free Online Video Editing Tools

If you’re looking to create engaging videos without breaking the bank, this guide is for you. Try these free online video editing tools to edit, enhance, and share your videos.

I began my video experiments with Adobe Spark and as I went along, I realised that I needed to do more. Adobe Spark works well for a novice, but as you get the hang of things, you might want to explore more softwares.

Here’s a look at some popular options that I have experimented with:

1. Canva
Canva is a design powerhouse. I find it very useful with its templates that benefit both beginners and pros. It has video editing features as well. The user-friendly interface and drag-and-drop functionality make it perfect for beginners.

Canva offers a free library of templates, music tracks, and stock footage. You can trim clips, add text overlays, transitions, and basic animations. You can upload your clips as well, but in the free version I found many features such as stability and noise reduction missing. So, your videos need to be well shot to have a good end product.

2. Kapwing
Kapwing is a cloud-based platform specifically designed for social media video creation. It boasts an intuitive interface and a wide range of features, including trimming, resizing, adding captions, subtitles, and watermarks.

Kapwing integrates seamlessly with popular social media platforms, allowing for easy sharing directly from the editor. The free plan offers basic functionalities, with paid tiers unlocking additional features like stock video and audio libraries.

3. WeVideo
WeVideo is another user-friendly cloud-based editor with a free plan. It offers multiple editing tracks for layering video clips, images, and audio.

You can add text overlays, titles, and choose from a decent selection of transitions and effects. WeVideo also allows basic color correction and green screen editing in the free tier.

You can download your video but it has watermarks. This software was my among my first experiments with video editing and I liked it.

4. VEED
VEED is a powerful online editor known for its ease of use and collaborative features. It provides a clean interface with drag-and-drop editing and a good selection of built-in templates for various video types, like explainer videos or social media ads.

The free plan allows basic editing, trimming, adding text, and music. VEED also boasts real-time collaboration features, allowing multiple users to work on a project simultaneously (great for team projects!).

5. Clipchamp
Clipchamp is a free online video editor recently acquired by Microsoft. It offers a well-designed interface with a good balance of features and ease of use. You can trim and arrange clips, add text overlays, titles, and choose from a library of royalty-free music and sound effects.

Clipchamp allows basic color correction and integrates with popular cloud storage services like Google Drive and Dropbox for easy access to your footage.

I often use this for compressing large videos without spoiling the quality.

The plan is to now work with Da Vinci Resolve (free version), which is a slightly tougher one to crack but it comes with good results.

Remember, the best free online video editor depends on your specific needs and project type. Ask yourself: Do you need basic editing or more advanced features like color correction or green screen editing? How comfortable are you with video editing software? Are you creating social media videos, explainer videos, or something else? Do you need to collaborate with others on your video project?

With a little exploration, you’ll find the perfect platform to transform your video ideas into engaging content!
