Oracles, the mysterious message from the invisible world have defied our logical thinking since the beginning of time. I, too, am pulled by this mysterious and magical form of communication. While Tarot Cards are popularly used in divination, Oracle Cards are slightly less known. However, I work with them a lot more than Tarot and have found their symbolism very intriguing and deep.
The universe is a complex web in motion. It goes without saying that what lies there is a mirror of what makes up our core–what we call soul or spirit. It is this spirit that the universe speaks to. Sometimes, we are unable to decipher the message that the universe is conveying to us. It is then that these the cards are helpful. They form the bridge that is easier for our human self to cross over and connect.
While, I primarily meditate on the cards and then find my answers, I came across two masterclasses where the healers connected the messages from the Oracle Cards with journaling. I found this another easy way to find my way through complex situations.
The process of journaling
All spiritual seekers trust their intuition. I listen to what lies within for something inside me already knows what’s to be done. It’s just that the cards help me bring this to light.
I begin with an invocation, a few minutes of silence and meditation. Then frame my question and shuffle the cards.
Sometimes, a card falls out. That becomes a special message.
Now, take out a card.
Open the notebook. Write down the question. See what intuitively comes to the mind regarding this question in sync with the card.
What do the colours, picture, symbols, or anything else on the card mean to me?
It could be words, numbers, sentences, ideas, thoughts. Jot them all down.
Then, slowly, once done, I try and piece them together.
Sometimes, the mind finds clarity immediately. At times, it can take a few days also. The idea is to let it unfold slowly, so you know that your path is full of light.

If you are unfamiliar with either Tarot or Oracle Cards, then also you can try this. All decks come with a guidebook. You can familiarise yourself with the cards and then proceed.
Why Journal with Oracle Cards?
Oracle cards offer a unique perspective, prompting you to explore your inner landscape in a creative and insightful way. But simply drawing a card isn’t enough. The power lies in asking the right questions, and journaling becomes your vehicle for exploration.
- Deepen Intuition: The combination helps you connect with your inner wisdom, allowing you to access insights beyond your conscious mind.
- Gain Clarity: Journaling helps you process the messages from the cards, revealing hidden patterns and providing clarity on complex situations.
- Self-Reflection: It encourages introspection and self-discovery, leading to a deeper understanding of yourself and your desires.
- Creative Exploration: The visual and symbolic nature of oracle cards sparks creativity and allows you to approach problems from a new perspective.
How to Ask the Right Questions:
- Set Your Intention: Before drawing a card, take a moment to centre yourself and clearly define your intention. What do you want to learn? What area of your life needs clarity? To set your intention, find a quiet space, take a few deep breaths, and visualize what you want to learn. You might say aloud, “I intend to gain clarity on my career path” or “I intend to understand the root of my anxiety.”
- Frame Open-Ended Questions: Avoid yes/no questions. Instead, ask questions that encourage reflection and exploration. Examples:
“What is the underlying message I need to understand?”
“How can I best navigate this situation?”
“What steps can I take to align with my highest self?”
“What is my inner voice trying to tell me?”
“What is blocking me from my desired outcome?”
- Draw Your Card(s): Draw the card(s) and trust your intuition.
- Journal Your Reflections: Describe the card’s imagery and symbols. Don’t just describe the card, analyse it. What colours stand out? What emotions does the imagery evoke? How does the card’s message connect to your current situation? Are there any patterns or recurring themes in your life that the card highlights?
Write down any words or phrases that stand out.
Reflect on how the card’s message relates to your question.
Explore any insights or connections that emerge.
Write about what actions you can take.
- Listen to Your Intuition: Pay attention to any gut feelings or intuitive nudges that arise during the process.
Example Journaling Prompts:
- “What does this card reveal about my current path?”
- “How can I integrate the wisdom of this card into my daily life?”
- “What limiting beliefs are being highlighted by this card?”
- “What opportunities are being presented to me?”
- “How can I cultivate the qualities represented by this card?”
Remember:
- There are no right or wrong interpretations. Trust your own intuition.
- Be patient and allow the process to unfold naturally.
- Journaling with oracle cards is a powerful tool for self-discovery and guidance.
By combining the insightful messages of oracle cards with the reflective power of journaling, you can unlock a deeper understanding of yourself and navigate life’s challenges with greater clarity and purpose. So, grab your journal and your favourite deck of oracle cards, and begin your journey of self-exploration today.

I’m familiar with Tarot cards, but this is the first time I’m hearing about Oracle cards. I’ve always wanted to get a reading done by an expert, but now that you’ve mentioned it’s something one can do on their own, I’m intrigued to try it myself. Thank you for such an interesting and insightful post!
