Say Goodbye to Glasses with Desktop Yoga

With all of us hunched over our laptops and less physical movement, our joints and muscles go for a toss. The eyes water and the muscles BECOME weak, leading to the need for glasses. Here’s how you can say goodbye to glasses.

What is the main cause of aches and pains?

The aches and stiffness tend to make it difficult to have a normal day. Every joint in the human body is built for a specific movement in a particular direction and the biggest cause of pain arises due to repetitive or fix movements.

People working for long hours on the computer suffer from problems such as lumbar back, middle back, pain in shoulder and neck, stomach and more.

Watching the screen for hours is bound to weaken our eyesight, affect our brain, blood circulation and chances of migraine rise sharply.

A computer user does more harm to his/her eyes, back or spine in an hour than a factory worker in five hours.

What is benefit of Desktop Yoga?

The art of yoga entails stretching and twisting the body. These stretches and twists are referred to as a ‘Yogic Stretch’.

Yoga helps us to focus on our work and relax so that we can get back to work again. ‘Yogic Stretches’ activates hormones, which can alter the emotional and chemical make up of a human being within minutes. It also helps us ease out stress.

How to practice Desktop Yoga

To get rid of all these pain and stiffness problems, Desktop Yoga is a good option. A working person is usually busy till late night, and is unable to follow a 5am routine. But for Desktop Yoga, you need only a few minutes between work.

‘Desktop Yoga’ can be started from neck because it is the primary point where stress attacks. Then one can move to shoulders, then back, arms, legs and most importantly, our eyes.

Why you must do eye exercises regularly

Myopia — the medical term for short-sightedness or near-sightedness — is on the rise. Globally, around a third of people were short-sighted in 2020, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). But projections indicate that 3.4 billion people will be short-sighted by 2030, or about 4 in 10, rising to half the population by 2050.

3 eye exercises you can do daily

Owing to the high level of stress, we lose awareness of our eyes, leading to weakening of eye muscles and result is wearing glasses. Therefore, we need to do eye exercises regularly. Then the eyes remain relaxed, even while performing work which requires more concentration.

Sit comfortably on the chair, keeping the feet comfortably at a distance, back straight and placing hands on thighs.

FOR THE FIRST EXERCISE, raise your one arm, keeping the fist clenched and thumb at eye level. Focus on tip of the thumb without blinking and then moving the arm to right and left side. You can even try this with a pencil.

IN SECOND EXERCISE, close your eyes, relax the face and body, then open the eyes fully. Now, look at a fixed point in front of you. Focus on the eyebrow center, hold for a few seconds, close and relax the eyes.

THE THIRD EXERCISE is similar to the second one. Open your eyes and focus on the tip of the nose. Keep it there for a few seconds. Close the eyes when tired and repeat.

Do all the exercises 10 times, it takes barely 10 minutes.

All these exercises help in strengthening the eye muscle, releasing tension and calming the nerves. They also keep the eyes clear and bright, help develop concentration.

Whenever you get time, do these eye exercises in the nearest park or even your balcony, as everything heals faster in Nature.
