We all carry shadows. But what if they’re not enemies, but secret allies?
We all have shadows—the fears, doubts, and painful memories that lurk within us. Instead of letting them control you, it’s time to befriend them. I learned this the hard way after many personal setbacks. The more I tried to push my shadows away, the more they popped up in my life. So, I decided to take the bull by the horns.
The term, shadow self, was coined by Swiss Psychoanalyst Carl Jung, who explained it as “that what you don’t wish to be”. Inspired by his concept of Nekyia—facing your inner ghosts—I created the 7-Day Shadow Writing Challenge. This free workbook is filled with prompts, simple rituals, and reflections to guide you on a journey of healing and self-discovery.
This isn’t just about confronting the “bad” parts of you; it’s about uncovering untapped strengths like creativity and resilience. By giving yourself just a few minutes a day, you can turn your shadows into secret friends and step into a more authentic, whole version of yourself.
Read Healing Your Shadow to understand all about the shadow self.

I have always been a little intimidated by the concept of shadow work, but your 7-day guide makes it feel so much more approachable. The way you structured the prompts really helps because sometimes I just stare at a blank page not knowing how to start digging into those deeper, hidden emotions. I downloaded the PDF journal. Thank you for creating such a thoughtful and accessible tool for self-discovery!

I hope this proves beneficial, though facing your shadow means, facing the cause first before meeting the lighter side.

I hope it is helpful, but do keep in mind that first the darkness emerges and then the light comes in. Take slow and steady steps.

All the best, do share your feedback with me. Though, you have to keep in mind, first the negative emotions come out and then the light shines, so it’s best to be prepared.

Yes. It’s a slow process, and you need to handle it with care as emotions are fragile and mind also needs to be flexible.

Best results are seen with long term goals, but 7-day is a good beginning. It needs patience and lots of self love.

Such a clean, inviting write-up. I especially liked how you framed the 7-day challenge as more than just journaling: a path to meet the hidden, messy parts of ourselves, and reclaim creativity and emotional growth. The tone is gentle, hopeful, and real, exactly the kind of voice we need in the mental-health / self-discovery space.

Thanks a lot, Ambica. I’ve downloaded the pdf and would love to see how this shadow writing works for me. I don’t know what I’m expecting from it but it should be an interesting way to introspect.

I hope you find some clarity. It’s slow and patient work. As the dark layer is the first cover, you need to handle that part with care, its fragile, note it down and let it dissolve till it becomes light. You can add your journal or diary to this work, that helps a lot.

For the longest time, I had mistaken the concept of shadow writing. Of course, we all have our ghosts from the past that we don’t wish to confront. I will use your .pdf to understand and work on it. Let me see if I’m able to get myself to do it. Even that is a big challenge for me.

It needs patience and self care. Take it like something you didn’t like but it has potential. It needs patience and care, go easy as you navigate your inner being. Keep noting and keep progressing.

I wish you the best, but remember, shadows are unsettling parts, therefore, you should note all your feelings carefully after doing this. And then slowly convert all those into white light and positive changes.
